I am usually bored by bleak futuristic cautionary tales or I tire easily with writing that seems self-consciously experimental. this book is neither of These and I loved it. the author's use of language is beautiful and unusual and I let it flow over and through me as I read past bedtime and again the next morning. it's a meld of genres and one gets the sense that the author craves experience and memory and sensation and weaves it altogether as an abundance. The protagonist too, like the the reader, calls on sensation, memory, history itself to help her feel her way to the truth of her experience. She lives in a future where everything one knows and feels derives from computer-like chips where identity is amorphous and boundaries are permeable between human and animus and gender is fluid. This is an ambitious unique story in which classical philosophers' ponderings on human experience mix with science fiction and murder mystery. I highly recommend this beautiful novel!Product details

Very dull, repetitive, endless angst. Supposed to be sci-fi, mostly a muddled mess. Sort of 60's druggy with poorly adapted virtual reality thrown in. A few really odd unpleasant notes sex with a Wildebeest ?
Intense - I couldn't put it down. (I bought the version) The author creates characters that are a psychological study of human nature. I will be reading more of her work!

Donna Haraway, Karen Barad and Katie King's cyborgs animism meet Middle-Age speculative feminism. A celebration to art, science, fiction and affective resonance. A terrific read!
